Fabricating the guards
The aluminum casting of the spark catcher (Otherwise known as "shrapnel catcher" or "parts catcher") on the left side of the grinders table was cracked. I decided to fabricate a new one from 3mm sheetmetal.
First thing was a cardboard mockup to get the proportions right:
I don't have access to a large shear, so I have to cut sheetmetal of that thickness with the anglegrinder and a thin cutoff wheel:
The parts where tig welded together:
After a coat of paint it got mounted to the machine:
